London – Today the Apostolic Nunciature in Great Britain issued an official statement of an unusually firm and uncompromising tone, made necessary to stem the circulation of false and manipulated claims concerning the application of the Motu Proprio Traditionis Custodes. According to the Nunciature, “in response to repeated requests for clarification regarding the private meeting held on 13 November between the Apostolic Nuncio and the episcopal members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales concerning the application of Pope Francis’s Motu Proprio Traditionis Custodes, the Apostolic Nunciature in Great Britain expresses its regret over the unauthorised dissemination of information from that private meeting, which has generated confusion among the faithful. The norms of the Motu Proprio will be carefully examined and applied on a case-by-case basis.”
A stark statement, rendered inevitable by the unauthorised spread of information attributed to the Nuncio—information weaponised to ignite, yet again, the usual liturgical guerrilla warfare.
The traditionalist disinformation machine
In recent days, some traditionalist websites have spread the claim that the Nuncio supposedly told members of the bishops’ conference that Pope Leo XIV intends to grant easier permission for the celebration of the Vetus Ordo Mass.
This fabrication was immediately amplified by American traditionalist media, often funded by individuals linked to or aligned with the Trump administration, with the clear aim of artificially setting the current pontificate against that of Pope Francis. A familiar and sadly well-tested strategy: invent, distort, attribute, and then present everything as an exclusive revelation. Yet another proof of the ability – and the will – of these circles to manipulate reality, as Silere non possum has long denounced.
The same tactic used against Traditionis Custodes
This episode mirrors precisely what happened around the report that led to the publication of Traditionis Custodes. A pseudo-journalist from the United States – known for having helped establish a website that compiled dossiers on cardinals in order to influence a Conclave – recounted that report in a wholly distorted manner, creating a toxic climate that still hangs over social networks today. Those same individuals are now recycling the same script: attribute to the Nuncio words he never uttered, spread the “news” as if proven, and fabricate controversy with the sole aim of pressuring the current Pope.
A message twisted by those obsessed with lace and frills
The statements attributed to the Nuncio are entirely unreliable. The address delivered by the pontifical representative was very different: a fraternal intervention in an ecclesial context utterly opaque to feverish lay activists obsessed with lace and finery, who reduce the liturgy to an antiquarian fair to be defended with resentment.
Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía spoke candidly to his fellow bishops, sharing reflections we are all observing, but which, by their nature, were meant to remain confidential. In a context that has become a battleground, every word risks placing the Pope himself in difficulty and, even more so, pushing the Holy See to harden its position—reinforcing the conviction that certain situations have been abundantly provoked.
The behaviour of these pseudo-traditionalists, more loyal to the White House than to the Apostolic Palace, mirrors exactly the attitude shown since the beginning of this pontificate by certain cardinals—prelates who often fall under the sway of Trump-aligned groups, attracted also by their funding. From the moment of Leo XIV’s election, these cardinals have surrounded the Pope with constant pressure: first through orchestrated media campaigns, and then by attempting direct interventions within the Papal Apartment. A heavy-handed strategy that can only further stiffen the Pope and his collaborators in the Curia. Within the Church, certain dynamics simply cannot be managed through abrupt turns or theatrical gestures, and those who constantly invoke “tradition” should know this better than anyone. Not only for diplomatic reasons, but above all for what lies closest to the Pope’s heart: the safeguarding of ecclesial unity.
The real enemies of Tradition
Silere non possum has long denounced this: the gravest damage to Tradition comes precisely from these “pseudo psycho-repressed traditionalist blogs”, which use the liturgy as a weapon to target others and sow division in the Church. The point was reaffirmed by Leo XIV himself in his long interview this summer: “Part of the problem is that the liturgy has been used as a political tool, becoming a pretext to push forward other battles.”
Leo XIV is not Francis. And he is certainly not their toy
It is evident that Leo XIV seeks an approach more serious, more balanced, and more oriented towards unity than what some perceived under Francis. But—and this is the decisive point—the Church does not function according to the fantasies of certain traditionalists, with the Pope leaning out of a window to declare: “What my predecessor did is rubbish; now we change everything.” If adjustments come, they will arrive calmly, with balance, and without fanfare. And the behaviour of these groups is only pushing that day further away.
The arrogance of ignorance
It is futile. To paraphrase Manzoni: if a person lacks intelligence, one cannot give it to him. Instead of waiting in silence and trust, allowing the Holy Father to lead the Church towards a more serene atmosphere, these groups will continue to create division, sow suspicion, and foment pointless battles.
The psycho-blogs populating this toxic world do nothing but attack priests, parishes, and celebrations, turning everything into permanent brawling. And they are the same people who encourage withholding the eight per thousand from the Catholic Church, while simultaneously pouring generous donations into the pockets of those fork-tongued priests who celebrate the ancient Mass in the morning and stir up discord in the evening—sometimes even stooping to coarse innuendo during rehearsals for pontifical liturgies.
The truth is one
The Apostolic Nunciature in Great Britain has today sought to re-establish the truth. And it was right to do so. Because the Church needs fidelity, not plots; a peaceful path, not manipulation; unity, not liturgical wars waged by those who exploit either tradition or modernity solely to attack others. And today, that clarity came from London.
