Rome  Pope Leo XIV, who as usual spent Monday evening at Castel Gandolfo, will celebrate today, November 11, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., Holy Mass in the Basilica of Sant’Anselmo on the Aventine Hill, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of its consecration.

Before returning to the Vatican, the Pontiff will stop for a visit to the Benedictine complex, which preserves a long tradition of prayer and Gregorian chant, especially during Sunday Vespers. This Basilica is also home to the Primatial Abbey of the Benedictine Order. Around 90 monks and religious from more than 30 countries live here, studying at the Ateneo Sant’Anselmo or other Roman universities.

The church of Sant’Anselmo, built between 1893 and 1896 in Neo-Romanesque style, represents one of the main spiritual and academic centers of the Benedictine Order in Rome. From here, every year on Ash Wednesday, the Pope leads the evocative penitential procession toward the Basilica of Santa Sabina, thus inaugurating the Lenten journey of the universal Church.
