In recent days, news emerged that Cardinal Péter Erdő, Metropolitan Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest and Primate of Hungary, had suffered a stroke. In reality, all this happened at the beginning of the year. The prelate has been undergoing rehabilitation for some time.
The 73-year-old cardinal has not appeared in public for several months. At Easter, he merely sent the faithful an audio message, in which his voice sounded noticeably weakened. His recovery is proceeding slowly.
In the last few hours, however, certain peddlers of titles - figures well known in ecclesiastical circles for their way of life - have circulated the claim that the cardinal had suffered a heart attack. These are, moreover, the same sorry circles that offered the world a false and distorted account of Pope Francis’ investigation into Summorum Pontificum. Precisely for this reason, it is important to distance oneself from such people. And when these so-called conservative cardinals finally understand that their worst conspiracy lies precisely in having always relied on such figures and allowed themselves to be surrounded by them, it will already be too late.
