About us

Serving the Church, in truth

News on the Pope, the Church and the Vatican, told with faith and a sense of the ecclesial. For us, to inform is an act of love for truth and communion, not propaganda.

Silere non possum is an international news outlet founded in 2021 by Marco Felipe Perfetti, a journalist and analyst of the Catholic Church and the Vatican.

We cover the life of the Holy See, of dioceses, religious orders and Catholic communities around the world. We follow appointments, documents, ecclesial proceedings and the events that shape the Church, but also politics, rights, justice and the international affairs that test contemporary society.

Alongside the editor, our contributors bring a range of expertise and perspectives. The pages of Silere non possum carry news, analysis, commentary and in-depth pieces built on careful sourcing, on the verification of documents and on the accurate reconstruction of the facts.

We also pursue investigations into matters of public interest, giving space to facts and testimony that too often remain at the margins of mainstream coverage. Protecting our sources is an essential part of this work: anyone who comes to the newsroom can count on its independence and on the protection of their anonymity.

Over the years, Silere non possum has earned its place in Vatican and Catholic journalism through its editorial independence, its care for sources and its attention to what happens both within the Church and beyond it.

What we believe in

Three principles, one mission

Protecting our sources

Anyone who comes to the newsroom can count on our independence and on the protection of their anonymity. The safety of those who speak to us is an essential part of what we do.

In the service of truth

We don't chase approval; we seek the truth. We publish exclusive documents and analysis free of partisan interest: we serve the Church by reporting what is, not only what people would like to read.

We don't simplify. We explain.

We get to the heart of the matter: canon law, religious life, priestly formation, the life of the Church. No shouty headlines: the truth deserves time and a clear head.

Love truth; show yourself for what you are, without pretence, without fear and without holding back. And if the truth costs you persecution, then accept it; and if it brings you torment, then endure it. And if for the sake of truth you must sacrifice yourself and your life, then be strong in the sacrifice.

Our work

The reader knows they are dealing with an outlet free of partisan leanings and of allegiances, whether political or ecclesiastical: our journalists publish the documents and offer well-founded analysis, giving ample room to original sources and little to personal interpretation.

The investigations that defined us

The cases we brought to light

Enzo Bianchi

The unjust exile of Enzo Bianchi

In 2021, just after it was founded, Silere non possum shed light on what lay behind the removal of the founder of Bose from the community he had created.

Marko Ivan Rupnik

The accusations against Marko Ivan Rupnik

On 1 December 2022, Silere non possum revealed to the world the contents of a confidential dossier held by the former Holy Office on the powerful Jesuit Marko Ivan Rupnik.

Francis's pontificate

The inside story of Francis's pontificate

Silere non possum brought to light numerous behind-the-scenes accounts and exposed many irregularities in the pontificate of Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

Mauro Gambetti

Mauro Gambetti's stewardship at St Peter's

Documents and testimony: abuses of power within the Fabric of St Peter's, desecrations in the Vatican Basilica and the reckless spending of Archpriest Mauro Gambetti.

Sloane Avenue

The Sloane Avenue affair

Silere non possum pieced together the details of a political and vindictive manoeuvre waged against a Cardinal of Holy Roman Church, in which certain figures influenced and drew in Pope Francis himself. The investigation also denounced the use of the Vatican's judicial power as a tool to strike down and destroy internal rivals.

Vicariate of Rome

The reform of the Vicariate of Rome

Silere non possum published exclusive documents and gathered testimony on how various prelates ran the Vicariate of Rome, reconstructing failings, contentious decisions and internal tensions. The investigation also charted the deterioration in the relationship between Pope Francis and a significant part of the Roman clergy.

From “Magnifica Humanitas”, the first encyclical of Leo XIV

“Christian communities, too, must commit themselves to transparent communication and to the honest pursuit of the facts. […] some journalists, in their passion for the truth, have played a vital role in bringing injustices and abuses to light. […] vigilance and transparency are first and foremost a grave responsibility of the Church herself, and we must not wait for others to compel us to face uncomfortable truths about ourselves.”

Leo XIV, Magnifica Humanitas

This is what Silere non possum has always sought to do, and what it will continue to do.
