From 31 March to 3 April 2025, the Second italian Synodal Assembly took place in the Vatican, bringing together 1,008 delegates: 168 bishops (including seven cardinals), 252 priests, 34 religious, 17 deacons, and no fewer than 530 lay participants. The event unfolded in an atmosphere marked by significant tension.
“Moments of tension have always been part of synodal journeys and, if lived constructively—as was the case in this Assembly—they can become spiritual experiences,” remarked Bishop Erio Castellucci, attempting to put a positive spin on the situation.
Yet the core issue remains: few truly understood the deeper meaning of this Synod. Many, it seems, have lost sight of the Church’s fundamental mission—to proclaim Jesus Christ and his Gospel.
